Remote Area First Aid Course & Wilderness Refresher Course
This Course is ideal for those that work in the Outdoors but have good access to communications and transport. It can be completed as a stand alone Remote Area First Aid Course or it can also be used as refresher course for those that have already completed a Wilderness or Remote Area Course in the last 3 years.
Successful completion awards participants with following Nationally Accredited Units of Competency.
- HLTAID003 ‘Provide First Aid’ (Including CPR)
- SISOOPS305A ‘Provide First Aid in a Remote Situation’
- SISXEMR201A ‘Respond to an Emergency’
The Remote Area First Aid Course is delivered over 3 consecutive days from 8.30-17.30pm the following topics will be covered: DRSABCD(EFG) Action Plan, CPR, Unconscious Patient, First Aid Principles and Guidelines, Shock, Planning & Preparation for a Remote Location, Wounds, Fractures, Dislocations, Sprains and Strains, Spine Management, Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Hypothermia, Hyperthermia, Bites and Stings, Head Injuries, Burns.
The first 2 Days are delivered both inside and outside covering the fundamentals of First Aid. Day 3 is then delivered predominantly outside using scenario’s in bush environments to help simulate a realistic remote response.
The Remote Area First Aid Course & Wilderness Refresher Course will be held at the Belair National Park Volunteer Centre, Saddle Hill Rd which is located within the Belair National Park. The location can be found here on Google Maps. Belair National Park Volunteer Centre
What to Bring
The course contains practical scenarios to enhance the learning and these will take place outside within a bush reserve/setting. As such you are expected to be wearing suitable comfortable outdoor clothing, and be prepared for all weather occurrences. Please bring a day / overnight backpack with appropriate outdoor gear you would normally carry whilst on an adventure such as a Sleeping Mat, Shelter (tent or tarp), Sleeping Bag or Emergency Blanket, Walking Poles (if you have them), First Aid Kit and some Spare (old) Clothing. Ensure you bring any personal medical items that you require, and a water bottle, sunscreen and rain jacket.
This course is self catered, with tea and coffee provided.
