Remote Area First Aid Training
‘Remote Area First Aid’ – If you are more than an hour from definitive care (Medical Centre/Hospital), however there is still good access for vehicles and communication options are varied then ‘Remote Area First Aid’ will provide you with the extra skills and knowledge required to provide the best care to your patient, whilst waiting for a longer period of time for help to arrive.
Within the area of ‘First Aid’ it is commonly agreed that a “Remote Area” is that which is more than 1 hour from definitive care, and definitive care being a permanent medical facility. The definition of what is “remote” varies substantially between regions of the world, however essentially it constitutes isolated communities, workplaces or areas of interest that have limited access through transport and communication.
Providing First aid in a remote location, is the immediate care given to an injured or suddenly ill person. It does not take the place of definitive medical care. It consists only of giving assistance until a more advanced level of medical care is obtained or until the chance for recovery without medical care is apparent.
Training in Remote Area First Aid needs to be considered if:

Definitive medical care may be delayed for hours or days; by a difficult location, bad weather, lack of transportation or communications.

Certain injuries and illnesses are more likely due to the remoteness .

Medical care beyond urban first aid is needed.

First Aid supplies and equipment are limited.
Survive First Aid standard ‘Remote Area First Aid Course’ is delivered over 3 days and focuses on the extra skills and knowledge required to provide the best care to a patient whilst waiting for an extended period of time for help to arrive. Our standard course awards participants with the following units of competency.

For the new courses we have transitioned to some online pre course self directed learning modules which will allow us to focus completely on practical training and scenarios and have changed the course delivery a fair bit for 2021. Access to the learning modules will be provided once payment for the course has been made. The learning modules focus on the theory allowing the course to be as practical as possible.
The 3 day Face to Face Remote Area First Aid Course with pre course learning modules is equivalent to a 60 Hour Course based on the nominal hours of delivery.
Changes to the Training package for 2021 in the "Wilderness First Aid Skill Set (SISSS00126)" mean Survive will not be running any refresher courses as the new training package units are not equivalent to the old units. Anyone that already holds a wilderness first aid skill set will need to complete a full Wilderness First Aid course again if they would like to keep this skill set.
